If you use your hot tub frequently in the winter, who could blame you! They give you that extra bit of warmth you might need on a cold day. Since you may be using it frequently, you also should be taking the time to properly maintain it.
Here’s what you need to know about winter hot tub maintenance.
Check The Cover Often
Your hot tub cover minimizes heat loss. You don’t want to step into your hot tub only to feel lukewarm water. If you notice any damage to your cover, replace it as soon as possible. You will end up spending more money heating your hot tub than you will buying a new cover.
Check The Chemicals
Hot tubs require the right balance of a number of chemicals to keep the water safe to use. And, if they are not properly balanced, you may find you get itchy skin and burning eyes. An imbalance can also case clogged pipes and shortened equipment lifespan. If you notice that the water appears foggy, this is also an indication that there is a chemical imbalance. Make sure you are stocked up on test strips and check the water on a daily basis.
Check Water Levels
A crucial part of your hot tub maintenance is to check the water levels. If there isn’t enough water, then your pipes can freeze. And if there is too much water, then you risk overflows. Be sure to have a hose handy to fill up your hot tub in case the water levels get too low. It should be high enough so when the jets turn on, there is no overflowing water.
Check Equipment
Your hot tub equipment is why you get to enjoy your hot tub. Check on your hot tub equipment daily. If you notice any issues, contact a professional as soon as possible.
