As summer comes to an end, it’s time to close your pool for the fall and winter seasons. But, even when pools close, there are still some pool maintenance tips you can use to ensure your pool remains in good shape over the winter. Taking proper care of your pool throughout the year will make opening your pool in the spring much easier as well.

So, let’s go over some pool maintenance tips you should remember for the fall.

Remove Leaves And Debris

Once your pool cover is on, it is important to keep it clean. So, when the leaves start to fall and debris gets on the cover, try to take some time to remove it to keep it clean. Any dirt or debris can lead to built-up algae in the pool, which can cause bacterial issues for you come the spring.

If you do not have a pool cover, then this step is even more important. When leaves build-up at the bottom or sides of the pool, it not only can attract algae and bacterial growth, but it can stain your liner. Therefore, removing all leaves and debris is key.

Clean The Pool Filter

If you had a busy pool during the summer, cleaning your pool filter is a must. You want to ensure there is no built-up dirt, oils, or cosmetics from everyone using the pool. Keeping the filters clean will help prevent any cloudy water appearance and will ensure the chemicals circulate in the pool properly.

Watch The Weather

If there is a lot of rain in your area during the fall, the chemicals in your pool may become diluted due to the excess water. So, you want to make sure you are watching the chemical levels to keep them balanced and shock the pool if necessary. Shocking the pool will also ensure any potential algae growth gets taken care of. If it rains and you have a mesh pool cover, make sure you are monitoring the water levels as well. You do not want your pool to overflow and have to drain it during the fall or winter.
